Mexican Drug Cartels Kidnapp Americans
Laredo, Texas is a city of 175,000 residents, 90 percent of whom are Mexican-American, is the largest inland port in the United States. About 60 percent of U.S. trade with Latin America and 40 percent of the trucks that carry goods across the border go through Laredo.
Last weekend three more American’s disappeared from Laredo into Mexico. Victims of yet another kidnapping brought on by the warring Mexican drug cartels.
Erik Vasys, an FBI spokesman in San Antonio , said 60 U.S. citizens have been kidnapped in the area since 2004, and 21 of those cases remain unresolved.
He said the abductions are the result of increasing lawlessness as two major drug cartels — the Gulf cartel and the Sinaloa cartel — fight for control of the cocaine and marijuana trafficking routes into the United States .
Just across the border in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico's rival drug cartels have turned the city into a war zone as they battle for control of the illegal drug market in the U.S.
Gun battles in broad daylight are common, and the U.S. Consulate was shut down, at least temporarily.
The drug gangs have killed the city's last two police chiefs, the second of whom lasted only six hours on the job. Widespread police corruption has compounded the problem. The entire 700-officer force was fired for corruption last summer after opening fire on a group of federal agents sent in to restore order, though many were hired back.
What is the Texas Governor’s response to all of this? Operation Linebacker. Approximately 7.2 million dollars will help fund additional law enforcement and response teams. As the Governor points out, Two-thirds (1,240 miles) of the U.S.-Mexico border lies in Texas. Until the border is secured, international terrorists, organized crime and violent gangs, such as MS-13, will continue to place Texans and the rest of America at risk.
We are talking about Texas- a state within the United States of America. It has been infiltrated and inundated by so much violence that it is no longer safe. How much longer does this have to go on? Are we going to wait until the entire southern border of the United States is no longer safe because of illegals crossing over here? Oh wait, that’s already happening. Wake up America, while there’s still an America left!
